5.5/10Critic Score

Mukhbiir arrives as a thriller with genuine potential, anchored by a premise that intrigued critics and a director confident enough to orchestrate several well-crafted cinematic sequences. The performances across these pivotal moments demonstrate commitment, and there's evidence of solid screenwriting in stretches that genuinely crackle with tension. However, the film struggles with derivative DNA—echoes of established thrillers in the Hindi cinema lexicon are hard to ignore—which undermines its attempt at originality. More critically, the narrative unravels when it matters most, with a climax that feels narratively incoherent and emotionally unearned, shattering the momentum the film had carefully built.

What could have been a taut, engaging thriller ultimately collapses under the weight of its own compromised execution. The filmmakers seem to have lost sight of their own story logic by the final act, resulting in a conclusion that pulls the rug out from under invested viewers rather than satisfying them. For an industry already flooded with espionage thrillers, Mukhbiir needed to be exceptional to justify its existence—instead, it settles for competent filmmaking that veers into frustration just when everything should click into place.
