Bose's Review:

"Life Mein Kabhie Kabhiee" attempts an ambitious narrative—tracking four friends through a five-year race for fulfillment—but struggles to balance its ensemble cast and thematic ambitions within its runtime. The core premise is genuinely compelling: the notion that happiness cannot be measured by wealth or power is timeless, and the film does occasionally find poignancy in Rajeev's ethical dilemma and Jai's moral deterioration. However, the execution falters significantly. The screenplay meanders between storylines without giving any sufficient depth; we're told these men are changing, but rarely shown the transformation with nuance. The direction lacks the precision needed to weave four parallel narratives into something cohesive—scenes feel episodic rather than interconnected. The performances are serviceable but unremarkable, suggesting the actors themselves weren't given much to work with beyond surface-level character arcs.

What deserves credit is the film's refusal to offer easy answers. There's no triumphant "winner" of the bet, which suggests the filmmaker had something intelligent to say about measuring success. But intent and execution are vastly different things. The film's 70% loss at the box office reflects what viewers quickly sensed: a half-baked exploration of ideas that deserved better craftsmanship. A tighter screenplay, more focused direction, and genuine dramatic stakes might have elevated this from a well-meaning misfire into something me

Storyline

So basically, this movie starts with this successful author guy doing a press conference about his bestselling book, and then it flashes back to show you how he and his four college buddies made this crazy bet while they were hanging out in jail after a wild night out. They basically challenged each other to see who could become the happiest and most fulfilled person within five years, and whoever won got bragging rights forever.

One of the guys, Rajeev, is super ambitious and wants to become a millionaire businessman like his older brother. He starts his own company in the airline industry and actually does really well for a while, but then the stock market crashes and he ends up in serious trouble financially. Things get complicated when he has to decide between taking money from his brother to pay off his debts or staying honest and struggling through it on his own.

Another friend named Jai decides to pursue politics because he wants power and influence, even though his mom really doesn't want him to do it. He climbs the ranks pretty quickly, but the higher he goes, the more he realizes he has to do some pretty shady stuff that goes against everything he believes in just to beat out the competition. It starts messing with his head really badly.
