"Kushti" attempts to revive the rustic wrestling dramedy—a subgenre that once thrived in Hindi cinema through films like "Dangal" and "Sultan"—but stumbles significantly in execution. Director Anutej Kolekar's film has the bones of a charming village tale: the rivalry between Avtar and Jiten, the dual-identity confusion around Chander, and the wrestling-as-metaphor-for-worth premise all hint at potential. However, the script buckles under the weight of its own convoluted subplots. The mysterious package storyline feels grafted on rather than organic, and the layers of mistaken identity, while occasionally amusing, drown out the emotional core that should anchor the father-daughter-suitor conflict. The performances lack the magnetic chemistry that could elevate thin material—there's a sense of actors playing predetermined beats rather than inhabiting lived relationships.

What's most disappointing is how the film squanders its central premise: wrestling as both literal sport and metaphorical trial. Where "Dangal" used the mat to explore family legacy and "Sultan" leveraged it for romantic redemption, "Kushti" reduces wrestling to set dressing for contrived complications. The humour relies heavily on slapstick and repetitive misunderstandings rather than character-driven wit, which might have felt fresher had the performances carried more energy. The village setting—typically a strength in Hindi cinema—remains largely underdeveloped, feeling more like a generic backdrop than a

Storyline

So there's this charming little village up north where wrestling is basically everything – they get super competitive about it every single year! Two rival guys, Avtar and Jiten, keep trying to outdo each other on the mat because whoever wins gets to run the whole village. It's this big deal that everyone gets worked up about, and the whole community gathers around to watch the drama unfold.

Now here's where things get really messy and fun – there's this character named Chander who's playing two totally different roles in the village, and that alone creates all sorts of confusion and hilarious mix-ups. Add in some secret identities, hidden love stories, and misunderstandings flying everywhere, and you've got pure comedy gold. But things really start spiraling when someone accidentally delivers a mysterious package to the wrong person, and that person decides to use it for their own sneaky purposes.

The real crux of the story is that Chander has fallen head over heels for Avtar's gorgeous daughter Laadli, but her dad isn't about to just hand her over. Instead, Avtar sets up this crazy challenge where Chander has to prove himself by taking on this absolute giant of a wrestler called Rama Krishna. It's basically Avtar's way of testing whether Chander has what it takes to be worthy of his daughter, and the whole thing becomes this intense wrestling ordeal that drives the whole plot forward.
