Review
Rajkumar Gupta takes a genuinely intriguing premise—a cop falling for the woman he arrested, then helping her escape—and somehow manages to strangle it into submission. The first act moves with purpose; there's tension in watching Saxena wrestle with doubt about Sapna's guilt, and the initial chemistry between the leads suggests this could've been something compelling. But by the interval, the film devolves into a sloppy, melodramatic mess where logic takes a back seat to tired romantic grandstanding. The performances are serviceable at best—neither actor rises above the material, and their scenes together feel more like obligation than genuine passion. The direction, meanwhile, becomes increasingly muddled; Gupta confuses conspiracy plotting with actual storytelling, piling on twists that feel arbitrary rather than earned.
What's genuinely frustrating is that beneath the wreckage, there's a film trying to ask interesting questions about justice, obsession, and institutional corruption. Instead, these ideas get trampled by overwrought drama and a narrative that spins its wheels without ever finding solid ground. The climactic revelations land with all the impact of a wet newspaper—you see them coming three scenes away, and the "shocking" conspiracies feel recycled from better thrillers. The supporting cast exists mainly to deliver exposition, and the cat-and-mouse game between Saxena and his pursuers never generates genuine suspense because the stakes keep shifting based on
Storyline
Karan Saxena, a plainclothes cop, gets the dream assignment—nail the killer of a murdered officer—and he actually does it! The culprit is Dr. Sapna Mathur, a brilliant woman who confesses on tape, case closed, right? Wrong! Saxena can't stop thinking about her, digs deeper into her background, and completely falls for her—this guy goes from detective to besotted lover in record time!
But here's where it gets messy: Sapna gets sentenced to death, and Saxena, absolutely smitten, helps her break out of prison like some romantic action hero! He even reaches out to powerful allies—IG Suryakant Verma and the state's chief minister—thinking they'll back him up. Instead, a manhunt launches for both of them, and Saxena realizes he's stumbled into something way bigger and darker than a simple murder case, with powerful enemies closing in from everywhere!
Now Saxena and Sapna are on the run, hunted by cops, shadowed by this creepy mysterious adversary who won't leave them alone, and totally in the dark about what comes next! Everyone he trusted is somehow connected to this twisted conspiracy, and the walls keep closing in—it's this perfect cocktail of romance, betrayal, and paranoia that keeps you absolutely gripped till the final frame!
