"Jigariyaa" attempts to resurrect the earnest romanticism of early-2000s Hindi cinema, set against the languid backdrop of Agra and Mathura, yet stumbles considerably in its execution. The film's premise—a lovestruck poet pursuing an educated woman from a respectable family—carries echoes of better-crafted romantic dramas like "Raees" or even "Ishaqzaade," but director fails to infuse the narrative with the necessary tension or emotional authenticity. Alt Balaji's Shaamu feels more like a caricature of the obsessive lover than a sympathetic protagonist, and his trajectory from aimless versifier to devoted pursuer lacks the gradual character development that might have justified his behavior. The performances, particularly the lead's, oscillate between melodramatic and wooden, unable to strike the delicate balance required in romance cinema where subtlety often matters more than volume.

What's most troubling is how the film squanders its setting—the historical cities of Agra and Mathura deserve richer storytelling than this paint-by-numbers arc of separation and reunion. The supporting cast and the father-son dynamic could have provided interesting counterweight to the central love story, but these threads remain underdeveloped and decorative. The "based on actual events" framing feels like an afterthought rather than a narrative anchor, and the script's reliance on convenient coincidences and dramatic twists betrays a lack of confidence in the core emotional material. Storyline

So this movie is based on actual events, and it follows this guy Shaamu who lives in Agra and basically spends his time hanging around with his useless buddies while writing poetry. He's the pampered only son of his father who runs a sweet shop. Then there's Radha, who comes from a respectable family in Mathura—her dad's basically a big deal in their town—and she's super educated and helpful, always supporting her father's charitable work.

The magic happens when Shaamu sees Radha while she's visiting her grandmother in Agra, and he's completely smitten right away. He becomes obsessed with finding her and tracking her down through the streets of his city. As they get to know each other better and start developing feelings, things look pretty promising between them.

But like most good love stories, life decides to throw a wrench into their plans. Just when things seem to be going well, circumstances pull them apart and they end up separated. It's that classic setup where you know there's going to be some serious drama coming your way.
