Jai Mummy Di attempts to mine dramatic gold from a familiar Bollywood premise—young love thwarted by maternal antagonism—but ultimately settles for a well-trodden path without breaking much new ground. The film's central conflict between Puneet and Saanjh's romance and their mothers' bitter feud carries genuine emotional stakes on paper, positioning the narrative as a battle between romantic passion and familial obligation. However, the execution falters in translating this tension into compelling cinema. The screenplay leans heavily on predictable plot turns and relies on the chemistry between leads to carry scenes that lack narrative innovation, while the supporting performances struggle to elevate the antagonistic mother characters beyond caricature.

Where the film does find moments of resonance is in exploring the psychological toll of being caught between love and loyalty—a dilemma that should theoretically resonate with Indian audiences familiar with these generational conflicts. Storyline

Two hearts collide in the most intoxicating way—Puneet and Saanjh are madly, deeply in love, so much so that marriage seems like the only logical next step. They envision a future together, taste it on their lips, feel it in their bones. But fate has a wicked sense of humor, and it arrives in the form of a revelation that threatens to shatter everything: their mothers despise each other with a fire that has burned for years.

What should be a joyous union becomes a minefield of conflict and tension. These two women who raised the lovers stand on opposite sides of an ancient divide, their enmity so fierce it could swallow whole families. Puneet and Saanjh find themselves caught between the most powerful force in their lives—romantic love—and another force equally undeniable: maternal devotion and loyalty.

As the couple grapples with this impossible situation, they must navigate the treacherous waters between their own desires and the demands of family honor. Every moment bristles with the question: can love triumph when those who brought you into the world are determined to keep you apart?
