6/10Critic Score

Imtiaz Ali's latest is a film caught between ambition and execution, much like its protagonist Harry—yearning for something meaningful but unable to fully commit to the journey. The premise itself is charming: a cynical tour guide and an optimistic lawyer traversing Europe in search of a lost ring, a MacGuffin that serves as a convenient framework for self-discovery. Shah Rukh Khan and Anushka Sharma share an undeniable chemistry, their banter crackling with genuine wit and warmth. The European locales are gorgeously shot, and there are moments—particularly in the quieter exchanges between the leads—where the film finds real tenderness and vulnerability. However, Ali's direction feels uncharacteristically loose here; the narrative meanders without urgency, and what should be a tight, propulsive romance stretches unnecessarily across its runtime.

The fundamental problem lies in the thinness of the dramatic stakes. Once we accept that this is fundamentally a love story rather than a quest, the missing ring becomes almost irrelevant, yet the film keeps returning to it as though it matters. The supporting characters are undercooked, and several subplots (particularly involving Harry's past) feel tacked on rather than organically woven in. Khan delivers a more restrained performance than his usual style, which works for the character but occasionally feels like he's holding back. Where the film succeeds is in its quieter moments—the vulnerability, the hesitant intimacy, the slow

Storyline

So there's this guy Harry who's basically a tour guide living it up across Europe, but he's actually from this tiny village back in Punjab. He'd dreamed of making it big as a singer in Canada, but life had other plans, and now he's stuck showing tourists around while dealing with some serious baggage—loneliness, guilt, and major homesickness. Plus, he's kind of a player with women, but honestly it seems like he's just distracting himself rather than actually connecting with anyone.

Enter Sejal, this bubbly and super optimistic Gujarati lawyer who accidentally loses her engagement ring while vacationing with her family. Instead of just moving on, she decides to stick around Europe and hunt for it, and she somehow convinces the reluctant Harry to help her out. They end up road-tripping across all these gorgeous European cities like Amsterdam, Prague, and Budapest, and it's pretty entertaining watching these two clash because they're basically complete opposites in every way.

As they search for the ring together, something pretty cool starts happening between them. Harry's all cynical and hardened, but Sejal's infectious optimism starts breaking through his walls, and he begins opening up about his real feelings. Meanwhile, Sejal gets to see that there's a lot more to this charming guide than meets the eye. Their witty back-and-forth gradually transforms into something way more meaningful, and you can feel the chemistry building as they discover more about each other and themselves along the way.
