5/10Critic Score

Imtihan starts with genuine promise—a man rejecting the rat race to find meaning through teaching, paired with a tender rehabilitation arc for a broken woman. The early chemistry between Pramod and Madhu feels earned, not manufactured, and there's real potential in exploring how genuine human connection can resurrect someone from trauma. The film's heart is in the right place, and the first act suggests something meaningful might unfold.

Then it completely capitulates to Bollywood's laziest impulses. The false accusation plot isn't just contrived—it's a narrative crutch that bulldozes whatever nuance the film had built. Rita's jealousy-fueled conspiracy feels less like character motivation and more like the writer needed a third-act obstacle, and Rakesh's involvement is so perfunctory he might as well be a cardboard cutout. The film treats a serious subject (sexual harassment allegations) with the gravity of a schoolyard squabble, which is both creatively bankrupt and ethically questionable. What could have been a complex examination of power dynamics becomes a melodramatic convenience.

The redemption feels equally hollow—Pramod proves his innocence and walks away with the girl, everything wrapped in a neat bow. Real life isn't this tidy, and neither should cinema be when it claims to have something meaningful to say. The performances are competent but trapped in a script that doesn't trust them to carry anything beyond surface-level sentiment. Imtihan had a story worth tel

Storyline

Pramod ditches his cushy business life to teach history at a rowdy college, determined to reform these undisciplined troublemakers. He crosses paths with Madhu, the principal's traumatized daughter who's still reeling from her pilot fiancé's tragic death and the accident that damaged her leg. But Pramod's genuine warmth and encouragement spark something real in her—he gets her painting again, gets her living again, and she falls hard for him.

Then jealousy strikes like a thunderbolt! Rita, the chairman's daughter who's been pining for Pramod, teams up with the goon Rakesh to destroy him with a false sexual harassment accusation. Everything Pramod's built crumbles as the college turns against him, and this good man faces his ultimate test of character. It's brutal, it's unfair, it's everything you hate watching happen to someone decent.

But truth wins out—Pramod proves his innocence and clears his name completely! Rather than stick around a place that wronged him, he chooses love and freedom, leaving college hand in hand with Madhu. It's the perfect ending because he gets exactly what he deserves: a fresh start with someone who truly sees him, and the chance to build a life on his own terms.
