5/10Critic Score

"Hunt" attempts to craft a psychological thriller that taps into the familiar formula of amateur sleuth meets dark conspiracy, yet stumbles in execution where it should soar. The premise of a forensic postgraduate unraveling a decades-old skeletal mystery has genuine potential—it echoes the meticulous obsession of films like "Badlapur" or the institutional gothic of "Raees"—but the film loses narrative momentum by overcomplicating its web of deception without earning the emotional weight these twists demand. Director Shashanka Chaturvedi seems more interested in piling on revelations than in allowing characters to breathe or audiences to genuinely invest in the protagonist's psychological unraveling. The performances, while competent, never transcend the screenplay's limitations; there's surface-level tension but little of the raw vulnerability that elevates thrillers from procedural to profound.

What particularly disappoints is the squandered potential of Dr. Keerthi's character arc. The film gestures toward her transformation—this idea that the investigation fundamentally alters who she is—but these moments feel undercooked, told rather than shown. The ex-lover's involvement should create moral ambiguity and romantic tension, yet instead the narrative treats it as another plot mechanism rather than a genuine emotional complication. Where "Talvar" or "Raid" understood how to layer personal stakes with investigative urgency, "Hunt" keeps them frustratingly separate
