Review
Rajpal Yadav's *Humshakals* is a film that mistakes absurdity for comedy and chaos for entertainment. The premise—a drug that turns men into dogs—could have been mining dark, satirical territory, but instead it's deployed as window dressing for a plot so convoluted it makes you wonder if the screenplay was written on the drug itself. Varun Dhawan and Rishi Kapoor sleepwalk through their dual roles with all the conviction of actors who've already mentally checked out, while Jacqueline Fernandez and Lisa Haydon are reduced to decorative props in a film that can't decide whether it's a caper, a romance, or a hospital escape thriller. The drug-induced dog behavior sequences aren't funny—they're just embarrassing to watch, for both the actors and the audience.
What's particularly galling is how the film wastes its potential social commentary about corporate corruption and family betrayal. Mamaji's scheme—drugging heirs to prevent wealth transfer—could've been wickedly clever, but the execution is so scattered and poorly timed that you lose track of who wants what by the second act. The introduction of identical twins who are cocaine smugglers isn't a plot twist; it's a sign of creative bankruptcy. The direction is all over the place, jumping from one half-baked idea to another without building any real momentum or comedic rhythm.
This is the kind of film that made money not because it was good, but because Bollywood's marketing machine and star power can sell almost anything to
Storyline
So basically, there are these two best buddies, Ashok and Kumar, who are in love with these girls named Shanaya and Mishti. Here's where it gets wild though—Ashok's dad is a billionaire but has been sleeping in a coma for like six years. Meanwhile, Ashok's uncle, who everyone calls Mamaji, has been running the show and absolutely loving all that money. Since Ashok is now old enough to take over the family fortune, Mamaji definitely doesn't want to hand it over, so he comes up with this crazy evil plan.
Mamaji teams up with this shady doctor named Dr. Khan, and together they cook up this mind-bending drug that makes people act and behave exactly like dogs for a whole day. It sounds ridiculous, but it actually works! So at a big business meeting, Mamaji sneaks this MAD drug into both Ashok and Kumar's drinks, and boom—they both start acting like complete dogs. Everyone thinks they've lost it, so they end up getting sent to a mental hospital where a smart lady doctor named Dr. Shivani figures out what's really going on and wants to help them escape.
But then things get absolutely bonkers because it turns out there are two other guys in the asylum who look exactly like Ashok and Kumar—and I mean identical! These lookalikes happen to work at some Indian food restaurant that's actually a cover for a cocaine smuggling operation. Without spoiling anything, let's just say this is where things get even more chaotic and confusing!
