5/10Critic Score

Isha Sharvani's chemistry with Varun Dhawan carries what is otherwise a predictably inoffensive romantic comedy through its most tedious stretches. The film works best when it leans into the genuine warmth between its leads—there's an ease to their banter that suggests these two actually like each other, which is more than most Bollywood rom-coms manage. However, Shashank Khaitan's direction is serviceable at best and lazy at worst. The premise itself—a blackmail scheme concocted to fund a wedding dress—is morally murky in ways the film never acknowledges, let alone explores. Instead, it glosses over the ethics of their "wild scheme" with the same casual dismissal it applies to nearly every plot point. The supporting characters are cardboard cutouts, the family drama feels tacked on, and the climax opts for convenient resolution over anything resembling real conflict.

What irritates me most is the film's refusal to commit to its own stakes. Kavya's internal conflict between love and familial duty could have been genuinely compelling, but instead it's wheeled out in the final act like a prop, then discarded just as quickly. The Delhi setting is underutilized—this could have been a scrappy, regional love story with actual flavor, but instead it's been neutered into generic Bollywood pablum. Sharvani and Dhawan deserve a better script, and audiences deserve better than this.

Storyline

So this girl Kavya is this super stylish Punjabi woman from a small town who's supposed to marry some fancy American doctor. But before the wedding, she needs this ridiculously expensive designer dress that her dad refuses to buy for her, so she heads to Delhi to figure it out. While she's staying with her uncle, she meets this charming but annoying local guy named Humpty who keeps trying to flirt with her, but she's totally not having it at first.

Humpty and Kavya eventually become friends after he helps her out, and she ends up telling him about her friend who got blackmailed by an ex with a private video. These two come up with this wild scheme to get back at the guy and make some money for the dress in the process. It's kind of a mess and Kavya's not thrilled with how they go about it, but all this crazy stuff they get into together actually makes her develop real feelings for him.

Things get pretty intense between them, and the night before Kavya's supposed to go back home, they take their relationship to the next level. Humpty asks if she loves him and she admits she does, but here's the complicated part—she's worried about disappointing her dad because her older sister married for love against their father's wishes and it ended badly. So Kavya's stuck between what her heart wants and what her family expects.
