5.5/10Critic Score

Housefull 4 attempts to marry Bollywood's comfort-food comedy formula with the ambitious scaffolding of a reincarnation narrative spanning six centuries, a premise that promises far more than the film ultimately delivers. The dual timeline structure—oscillating between 1419 Sitamgarh and contemporary London—should provide ample opportunity for satirical commentary or thematic depth, yet instead becomes a vehicle for slapstick gags and convenient plot mechanics. The central conceit of soul mates separated by destiny has romantic potential, reminiscent of films that have successfully blended fantasy with humor, but here it serves merely as justification for scrambled identities and mistaken marriages rather than any genuine exploration of karmic bonds or emotional stakes.

Where the film manages to entertain is in its commitment to unbridled absurdity—the barber protagonist's sound-induced amnesia and the labyrinthine setup involving gangsters and lost currency provide enough kinetic energy to propel viewers through its bloated runtime. However, the performances, while spirited, rarely transcend the material's inherent superficiality, and the direction prioritizes spectacle and volume over wit. The reincarnation payoff, wherein the couples finally align with their destined partners, arrives without the emotional resonance such a resolution demands; it feels more like checking boxes on a screenplay than earning a satisfying conclusion. Storyline

Housefull 4 is a comedy film centered on reincarnation, spanning 600 years from 1419 to 2019.

In 2019, three brothers—Harry, a barber who temporarily forgets what he's currently doing when he hears a loud sound; Roy; and Max—live in London. Harry experiences visions of a past life and misplaces a bag containing £5 million belonging to gangsters Michael and Big Bhai, in the laundry machine, who demand its return.

In Sitamgarh, hotel bellboy Aakhri Pasta recognises the group as reincarnations from 1419 Madhavgarh and Sitamgarh. Through Harry’s visions and Pasta’s revelations, they learn of their past lives. In 1419, Prince Bala of Madhavgarh, exiled for plotting against his father, sought to marry Princess Madhu, eldest daughter of Sitamgarh’s King Surya Singh Rana, to gain the throne. Bala’s allies—dance teacher Bangdu and bodyguard Dharamputra—loved Madhu’s sisters, Mala and Meena, respectively. Desperate to be king of Sitamgarh, Suryabhan, the king’s nephew, framed the couples for murdering an enemy clan leader, leading to a battle with the leader’s brother, Gama. During the chaos, Suryabhan sabotaged their wedding mandap, killing the couples.

In the present, Harry, Roy, and Max realise they are set to marry the wrong sisters (Harry with Pooja, Roy with Neha, Max with Kriti) compared to their past lives (Bala-Madhu, Bangdu-Mala, Dharamputra-Meena). Pasta helps them recall their past, and a painting of their 1419 wedding triggers the sisters’ memories. Pappu Rangeela, Gama’s reincarnation, and Michael, Suryabhan’s reincarnation, disrupt the wedding. Kriti reveals Suryabhan’s past betrayal, and Pappu kills Michael by pushing him into a collapsing mandap, avenging his brother’s death. The film concludes with the correct couples—Harry-Kriti, Roy-Pooja, and Max-Neha—marrying, fulfilling their 600-year love story.
