"House Arrest" attempts a genre mashup that doesn't quite know whether it wants to be a psychological thriller, a dark comedy, or a domestic drama—and that fundamental uncertainty undermines what could have been a compelling character study. The premise of agoraphobia-stricken Karan's world collapsing around him has genuine potential, reminiscent of how films like "Panic Room" or even Sriram Raghavan's tighter thrillers have mined tension from confined spaces. However, director handles the tonal shifts haphazardly, lurching from moments of genuine vulnerability to slapstick without earning the transitions. The performances feel caught in this same limbo; there's a kernel of something interesting in exploring how trauma calcifies into paralysis, but the screenplay doesn't give the characters room to breathe or convince us of their emotional stakes.

What's most frustrating is the wasted potential of the mysterious cabinet MacGuffin and the journalist subplot. Rather than building genuine suspense or using these elements to peel back Karan's psychological walls meaningfully, the film treats them as plot convenience—devices to manufacture chaos rather than illuminate character. The chemistry between Karan and the journalist could have anchored the film, but their dynamic plays as superficial flirtation rather than genuine connection that might threaten his carefully constructed isolation. When "all hell breaks loose," it reads less as earned catharsis and more as narrative despe

Storyline

So basically, this guy Karan gets totally wrecked by his wife's betrayal and decides to just shut himself away from the world completely. He quits his job, locks himself inside his place, and has groceries delivered through the building caretaker. The poor dude's anxiety is through the roof whenever he even thinks about stepping outside, so he's basically become a prisoner in his own home.

Things get weird when his neighbor Pinky shows up with this mysterious cabinet and begs him to hold onto it for her. Turns out whatever's inside this thing is seriously dangerous, and now Karan's stuck with it. Around the same time, a nosy journalist who's heard rumors about his self-imposed lockdown tracks him down for an interview. They actually vibe pretty well together, but Karan's constantly freaking out trying to keep her away from discovering what's in that creepy package.

Everything spirals into total chaos when multiple disasters hit at once — the neighbor comes back, the mysterious package situation gets exposed, the journalist's snooping intensifies, and basically all hell breaks loose. It becomes this hilarious mess where everything he's been trying to keep secret and under control just explodes in his face all at the same time.
