5/10Critic Score

There's a genuinely compelling social idea buried in *Hotel Milan*—the concept of a safe haven for couples in a climate of moral policing strikes at something real and urgent in contemporary India. The film attempts to satirize the absurdity of anti-Romeo squads and their thuggish enforcement of "culture," and director succeeds in creating moments where this critique lands with force. The premise itself carries enough narrative weight to sustain audience interest, particularly in how it positions entrepreneurship as an act of quiet resistance. The performances, particularly in scenes depicting the casual cruelty of the moral enforcers, have moments of genuine conviction that elevate the material beyond what could have been mere sermon-preaching.

However, the execution falters where it matters most. The love story between Vipul and Shaheen feels underdeveloped, lacking the emotional specificity needed to make his transformation credible or moving. The film's tonal balance—attempting to be simultaneously comedic, romantic, and socially conscious—doesn't quite hold; instead, it meanders between registers without fully committing to any. Character development, particularly for Goldie and ACP Yadav as antagonists, relies too heavily on caricature rather than exploring the ideological rot beneath their actions. What could have been a sharp, incisive commentary on institutional corruption and social hypocrisy settles instead for surface-level observations and convenient resolutions

Storyline

So basically, this movie is set against this whole thing happening in Uttar Pradesh where these anti-Romeo squads are supposed to stop harassment, but they're actually just bullying young couples in public. There's this guy named Goldie who leads the youth wing of some political party and he's basically a thug who beats up couples under the excuse of protecting culture. A cop named ACP Yadav is totally on his side, which makes things even worse for anyone just trying to hang out together.

Now there's this guy Vipul whose dad is constantly on his case about not having a job, and his girlfriend Shaheen is annoyed that he won't stand up to Goldie and his crew. She actually breaks up with him because of it! But Vipul really wants to get her back and also prove himself, so he decides to team up with his buddy Saurabh and Saurabh's uncle to open a hotel specifically for couples. They run it on an hourly basis so couples can just chill without worrying about getting harassed or judged.

The hotel takes off like crazy and becomes super popular with young couples who finally have a safe space to be together. Business is booming and things are looking good—Vipul even wins Shaheen back. Everything seems to be going great for the three partners, but you know how these things go in Bollywood—there's definitely more drama coming their way that's going to shake things up.
