7/10Critic Score

Aditya Chopra's "Holiday" is a film that understands something fundamental about the Indian soldier—that duty never truly takes a holiday, no matter how much we wish it would. Akshay Kumar embodies Virat with a restraint that's almost melancholic; beneath the action hero exterior lies a man caught between two worlds, one where he must always be on guard and another where he desperately wants to simply *be*. The romance with Saiba, played with refreshing authenticity by Sonakshi Sinha, isn't just a subplot—it's the emotional core that makes us care about whether Virat gets to have a normal life. Their chemistry crackles precisely because it feels like stolen moments, conversations interrupted by duty calling. Chopra's direction keeps the narrative taut, balancing the intimate character moments with explosive set pieces that never feel gratuitous but rather like extensions of Virat's internal conflict.

Where the film stumbles is in its second half, when the terrorist subplot threatens to overwhelm the very human story we've invested in. The interrogation sequences and conspiracy revelations, while competently executed, become mechanical—a checklist of action tropes that dilutes what made the opening act special. The "dirty cop" angle feels obligatory rather than organic, and some supporting characters blur together in the mayhem. Yet even as the plot machinery churns louder, Kumar grounds us with his performance; there's weariness in his eyes that speaks to soldiers everywhere

Storyline

So this movie follows Virat, who's basically a secret agent type guy in the Indian Army, and he gets a month-long break to go home to Mumbai. His parents are totally trying to set him up with this woman named Saiba, but he's not interested at first—until he randomly spots her boxing and immediately becomes obsessed with her. Turns out she's actually super modern and cool, nothing like what he initially thought, so he starts falling for her hard.

Things get wild when Virat witnesses a bomb explosion while he's out with his buddy, a police officer. He manages to catch the terrorist responsible, a guy named Ajmal, but the dude escapes from the hospital because there's apparently a dirty cop helping him. So Virat takes matters into his own hands, recaptures Ajmal, and through some intense interrogation, uncovers this massive plot—there's a whole network of sleeper agents planning coordinated bomb attacks all across Mumbai in just a few days.

What makes this situation even more complicated is that a lot of Virat's army friends and colleagues are planning to gather for his buddy Joel's wedding, which happens to fall right on the same day when these terrorist attacks are supposed to go down. So basically, Virat's stuck between trying to stop this huge terrorist operation while also dealing with his personal life and his romantic situation with Saiba, all while his vacation is supposed to be a time to relax.
