5/10Critic Score

"Hanste Khelte" stumbles into an intriguing premise—three wrongly-accused college kids trapped in a murder mystery—but squanders it with uneven execution and a tone that can't decide if it's a comedy or a thriller. The first half leans hard into slapstick humor, which works occasionally when the timing lands, but more often feels like filler padding out a script that's thinner than it should be. The three leads have chemistry, sure, but their performances are mostly surface-level mugging; none of them dig deep enough to make their characters feel genuinely desperate or three-dimensional. Director shows flashes of competence in orchestrating the chaotic investigation sequences, but loses control whenever he tries to balance laughs with legitimate mystery beats—the tonal whiplash is relentless.

What really undermines the film is the mystery itself. The clues are scattered haphazardly, the red herrings feel arbitrary rather than clever, and the final reveal, while technically unexpected, doesn't land with the impact it should because we've been given no fair chance to piece it together ourselves. The "shadier than the last" suspects are mostly one-note caricatures rather than genuine misdirection. By the time our trio cracks the case, you're not satisfied by their detective work—you're just relieved the runtime is ending. There are genuinely funny moments and the cinematography captures some nice college-town atmosphere, but these positives can't overcome the fundamental struct

Storyline

Three college misfits show up at their dean's house with revenge on their minds—they're suspended and furious, ready to teach him a lesson he won't forget. But plot twist! They walk in to find the man already dead, sprawled out cold. Now these three bumbling idiots are standing in a crime scene with zero alibi and everything pointing straight at them.

What unfolds next is absolute chaos as the friends scramble to clear their names while dodging cops and uncovering clues that make zero sense. Every suspect they interrogate seems shadier than the last, and the mystery keeps twisting in directions nobody saw coming. The tension ratchets up beautifully as they realize they're way in over their heads and the real killer is still out there watching their every move.

By the climax, our unlikely trio actually cracks the case wide open—turns out the culprit was someone nobody suspected, hidden in plain sight the whole time. They nail the killer, prove their innocence, and somehow manage to become actual friends through this bonkers adventure. It's the kind of film that makes you laugh, gasp, and genuinely root for three absolute disasters to make it out alive.
