Fugly stumbles through what could have been a gritty thriller about consequences and moral decay, but instead lands as a half-baked cautionary tale that mistakes shock value for substance. Anurag Kashyap's direction here lacks the edge and precision he's capable of—the film meanders through its setup, squandering genuine tension with clumsy exposition and characters who feel like they're reading off cue cards rather than inhabiting a crisis.
