6.8/10Critic Score

There's a rawness to this film that catches you off guard—it's not the hero's journey we expect, but rather a descent into obsession that becomes genuinely unsettling. Shah Rukh Khan's dual performance carries the weight of this tragedy beautifully; as Gaurav, he captures that vulnerable desperation of idol worship with such authenticity that we feel the sting of rejection alongside him. Director Maneesh Sharma doesn't shy away from showing us how dangerous devotion can become, and that's where the film's true power lies. The first half, with its darkly comedic setup, slowly morphs into something far more troubling—a portrait of a man undone by his own hero. It's ambitious and deliberately uncomfortable, refusing to let us settle into comfortable sentiment.

Yet the film stumbles when it tries to balance this moral complexity with typical thriller beats in the second half. The impersonation sequence that follows feels like it's operating on a different wavelength than the intimate tragedy we've witnessed, and the narrative loses some of its psychological grip in favor of conventional suspense. The story asks profound questions about parasocial relationships and the cost of celebrity worship, but doesn't always have the answers—sometimes it feels like the film is as confused as Gaurav himself about what it's trying to say. Still, there's something refreshingly adult about a Bollywood film that refuses easy redemption and makes us deeply uncomfortable with both its protagonist

Storyline

So there's this guy Gaurav from Delhi who is absolutely obsessed with this massive Bollywood star named Aryan Khanna. Like, seriously obsessed. He's got this hilarious coincidence where he literally looks exactly like Aryan, so he wins a local talent competition by pretending to be him. His parents think this is amazing and encourage him to head to Mumbai to actually meet his idol and show him the trophy. But things go downhill pretty fast when Gaurav gets wind of another actor trash-talking Aryan, and he completely loses it, beats the guy up, and forces him to apologize while recording the whole thing. He then sends this video to Aryan as a birthday present, thinking it's the coolest gift ever.

Well, Aryan does not take it the way Gaurav hoped. Instead of being grateful or impressed, Aryan has Gaurav arrested and the poor guy gets beaten up in prison. When Aryan finally shows up to confront him, instead of showing any appreciation, he basically tells Gaurav he's not a real fan and that he personally orchestrated the arrest. Gaurav asks for just five minutes with Aryan to explain himself, but Aryan won't even give him five seconds. It's brutal and completely shatters Gaurav's world.

Heartbroken and furious, Gaurav goes home and destroys everything related to Aryan—burns all his posters and memorabilia, sells off his internet cafe, the whole deal. A year passes and Gaurav is now in London, still fuming about how his idol betrayed him. He decides to get revenge by impersonating Aryan again, this time creating a massive scene at Madame Tussauds that gets the real Aryan arrested by police. When Aryan gets out on bail, Gaurav calls him and explains what he did, offering to stop the revenge plot if Aryan finally apologizes to him. But Aryan stubbornly refuses, and Gaurav decides things are far from over.
