Review
Dushman Zamana arrives as a earnest attempt at melodrama with genuine emotional stakes, though it doesn't always strike the right balance between its competing impulses. The film's central premise—a wealthy girl choosing love over luxury—is hardly original terrain, but director Sharma does manage to inject some freshness into the familiar setup through Seema's agency in the second half. Rather than becoming a damsel waiting for rescue, she transforms into an active investigator of her father's conspiracy, which elevates the material beyond typical romantic fare. The performances carry considerable weight; the lead actors demonstrate real chemistry, and there's a palpable tension in scenes between Seema and her father that suggests the filmmaker understands family betrayal as a genuine tragedy.
However, the film stumbles when it tries to juggle too many plot threads simultaneously. The introduction of Sanga as the hired criminal feels mechanically inserted, and the "ironclad evidence" against Vijay unravels too conveniently when the narrative requires it. The direction, while competent, occasionally defaults to melodramatic excess when restraint might have served the story better—certain confrontation scenes veer into territory that strains credibility. The writing also struggles with the climax, where resolutions arrive somewhat too neatly for a film that spent considerable time establishing real moral complexity.

Storyline
Seema's a hopeless romantic from a filthy-rich family, completely smitten with Vijay, this brilliant but penniless orphan who's clawing his way up through sheer determination and brains. Her dad—a ruthless businessman named D.K. Narang—discovers their secret romance and absolutely loses it, confronting Seema with an impossible choice: dump Vijay and keep the money, or follow her heart into poverty. Without hesitation, she picks love over luxury, and honestly, it's the most swoon-worthy moment!
But then things get *dark*—Narang's not about to let his daughter throw away her life so easily, so he hires a criminal named Sanga to frame Vijay for murder and destroy him completely. Vijay gets arrested, the evidence seems ironclad, and Seema's heart is absolutely shattered watching the man she loves potentially rot in prison for a crime he didn't commit. The stakes skyrocket as everything threatens to fall apart!
What makes this film brilliant is how it doesn't just let Seema be a passive prize—she fights like hell to prove Vijay's innocence and expose her father's twisted scheme. Love wins, truth wins, and Vijay gets cleared while Narang finally sees that money can't buy you everything that matters. It's this perfect blend of romance, drama, and genuine stakes that hits you right in the gut!
