Konkona Sen Sharma and Bhumi Pednekar deliver genuinely layered performances in a film that refuses to be a simple morality tale, and that's precisely where its strength lies. Director Abhishek Chaubey doesn't waste time moralizing about Dolly's theft or Kajal's work in the sex-chat industry—instead, he presents two women making calculated survival choices in a system that offers them precious few options. The film's real power comes from how it dissects middle-class hypocrisy: Dolly judges Kajal for taking "dirty" money while she herself is committing fraud, unaware that her own moral compass has already shattered under the weight of keeping up appearances. The chemistry between the leads crackles with genuine tension, and the screenplay smartly uses their contrasting worlds to expose the arbitrary nature of respectability itself.

However, the film stumbles when it tries to thread too many needles at once. The marital discord between Dolly and Amit feels underdeveloped, leaving that subplot to wither just when it needs dramatic teeth. More problematically, the third act doesn't quite earn its emotional payoff—the film builds to complications that feel inevitable rather than genuinely surprising, and the resolution opts for neat closure when messiness would have been more honest. Storyline

Dolly, a middle-class wife and mother in Noida, resorts to stealing from her accounting firm employer to fund mortgage payments on a luxury apartment her family can't afford. When her younger cousin Kajal arrives from rural Bihar seeking urban opportunities, Dolly dismisses concerns about inappropriate behavior from her husband Amit, leaving Kajal feeling unsafe and desperate to escape.

Unable to find respectable employment due to her lack of credentials, Kajal lands a job at a call center for Red Rose Romance, a dating app where she assumes the persona "Kitty" and takes calls from men seeking phone conversations. She moves into a hostel, befriends new companions, and discovers the liberation of city living—all while keeping her work secret from Dolly, who views such employment as beneath their family's standards.

Back home, Dolly grapples with her own struggles, including a disconnect in her marriage as she battles intimacy issues with Amit, creating mounting tension within their relationship. As both women navigate their separate lives in the same city, their contrasting choices and hidden truths set the stage for complications ahead.
