5.2/10Critic Score

"Do Premee" attempts to straddle two distinct genres—romantic comedy and thriller—but stumbles in the execution of both. The opening act, with its warring fathers and secret elopement, feels like well-trodden territory in Hindi cinema; we've seen this setup countless times, from "Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge" to more recent fare. Directors have managed to mine genuine freshness from this premise, but here it plays out with predictable beats and dialogue that rarely surprises. The performances by the lead pair have moments of chemistry, particularly in quieter scenes between Chetan and Payal, but they're let down by a screenplay that doesn't give them much to work with beyond the standard "star-crossed lovers" tropes.

Where the film truly loses its footing is in the transition to thriller territory. The shift from domestic drama to danger involving their employer should feel like a calculated escalation, a turning point that recontextualizes everything we've seen. Instead, it arrives abruptly and feels bolted on rather than organically woven into the narrative. The dark turn lacks the psychological depth or sustained tension that elevates thrillers like "Badhaai Ho" or even the more recent suspenseful entries in Bollywood. The direction doesn't quite marshal the atmosphere needed to make us genuinely afraid for these characters; instead, the danger registers as plot convenience rather than genuine menace. The film's attempt to be everything—romance, family drama, and thriller—

Storyline

Chetan and Payal are absolutely madly in love and ready to walk down the aisle, but their stubborn fathers have other plans—each wants to handpick a "suitable" match for their kid. When the old men refuse to budge, the couple does what any desperate lovers would: they elope and marry in secret! Things get even messier when Payal's dad throws up reward posters all over town hunting for his missing daughter like she's a fugitive.

To survive, Chetan lands a gig as a car driver while Payal scrubs floors as a maid for some wealthy employer—talk about a come-down from their dreams! They're grinding it out, trying to build a life together under the radar, when suddenly they stumble onto something terrifying about their boss that's way darker than either of them bargained for. Now they're not just hiding from angry parents; they're running for their lives!

What makes this so brilliant is how the film flips from romance to genuine danger without missing a beat. The couple's love gets tested in ways they never expected, and watching them fight back against this sinister threat while keeping their marriage intact is utterly gripping. It's that perfect Bollywood blend of heart, drama, and gasping-at-your-seat moments!
