5/10Critic Score

"Do Jasoos" attempts to blend slapstick comedy with crime-thriller elements, a tonal tightrope that Bollywood mastered in the '80s and '90s but struggles with today. The premise—bumbling detectives chasing the wrong girl while a real villain closes in—has genuine comedic potential, and there are moments where the film leans into this absurdity with charm. However, the execution wavers inconsistently. The detectives' chemistry carries several scenes, and there's an earnest effort to make their incompetence endearing rather than grating. The problem lies in the narrative's inability to decide whether it's a comedy-first romp or a serious thriller; it lurches between sentimental melodrama about Pinky's plight and broad humor that undercuts any real danger. Where a film like "Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro" or even "Golmaal" managed this balance by committing fully to their comedic logic, "Do Jasoos" second-guesses itself at crucial moments, diluting both laughs and stakes.

The direction lacks the visual wit needed to sustain the premise—the mistaken identity setup dissolves too quickly, and once the truth emerges, the film settles into conventional revenge territory. The shift from comedy to action-thriller feels abrupt rather than earned. The villain, despite the dark backstory involving smuggling and human trafficking, remains a fairly standard antagonist without the menace or charisma required to make his threat feel pressing. What saves the film from complete mediocrity is a committed

Storyline

Desperate for cash and drowning in debt, two bumbling detectives—Dharamchand and Karamchand—finally catch a break when a wealthy businessman throws them a lifeline: find his missing daughter and get paid! But here's where it gets hilariously messy—the guy breaks his glasses and hands them a photo of the wrong girl, Pinky, instead of his actual daughter! She's a sweet, middle-class woman living with her widowed mom, madly in love with Ashok, a journalist's son whose father had once put away a dangerous smuggler named Prem Chopra.

When Prem walks free from prison, all hell breaks loose—he murders Ashok's father and sets his sights on Pinky, who witnessed the whole thing! Now she's caught between two nightmare scenarios: Prem wants to marry her to steal the inheritance his late father left her, but he also wants her dead to keep her quiet! Our hapless detectives keep swooping in to save her, completely convinced she's their rich businessman's daughter, but when the truth finally comes out, they decide to go all-in and protect this spirited woman from Prem's vicious gang.

What follows is a thrilling takedown as Dharamchand and Karamchand transform from comedy relief into genuine heroes, dismantling not just Prem's smuggling empire but also uncovering fake currency and human trafficking rings in the process! The chemistry between the leads is absolutely electric, and watching these underdogs rise to the occasion and save the day—plus get their girl and their paycheck—is pure Bollywood gold!
