6.2/10Critic Score

Rohit Dhawan's "Dishoom" arrives with the pulse of a thriller and the heart of a buddy cop drama, yet it struggles to decide which story it truly wants to tell. The film sets up a genuinely compelling premise—a missing cricket star, a ticking clock, a nation on edge—but dilutes its tension by shifting focus between the investigation and the chemistry between Kabir and Junaid. John Abraham brings gravitas to the determined cop, while Varun Dhawan infuses Junaid with a charming goofiness that should work as contrast but instead feels like a distraction. The first half moves with promise, building mystery and intrigue, but by the intermission, you realize we're watching a film more interested in entertaining banter and action set pieces than actually solving its own puzzle.

What ultimately sabotages "Dishoom" is the tonal imbalance that plagues so many masala thrillers—it wants to be slick and serious one moment, then veers into comedic relief that undercuts genuine stakes. The investigation itself becomes secondary to the relationship dynamics, and when the eventual revelation comes, it feels more like a plot requirement than an earned narrative moment. Yami Gautam is underutilized as the mysterious girl, reduced to a plot device rather than a fully realized character. The action sequences are well-choreographed and the locations provide visual spectacle, but spectacle alone cannot substitute for a story that grips your emotional core.

Yet there's something undeniably watchab

Storyline

So basically, this major Indian cricket star just vanishes right before the huge India vs Pakistan match during a tournament in the Middle East. Some mysterious guy sends a video saying he's kidnapped the player and will kill him if they don't let the match happen. The government decides to keep it quiet and sends in this tough cop named Kabir to find the guy within 36 hours before everything goes crazy.

When Kabir gets to the UAE, he teams up with this local police officer named Junaid who's kind of a mess at his job but knows the city really well. They start digging into what happened the night the cricketer disappeared, and it turns out he went out with some girl to a party. They track down various people around town, talking to locals and party people, but nobody seems to have any solid information about where he actually went.

The investigation gets pretty complicated as they keep hitting dead ends and following different leads around the city. It becomes this tense race against time as they try to piece together what really happened and find the missing cricketer before the deadline runs out and things get really dangerous.
