Shammi Kapoor's effortless charm carries *Dil Tera Diwana* through what is essentially a well-worn comedic premise—the switched-identity farce that has been staple fodder for Hindi cinema since the days of mistaken-twin narratives. Director's handling of the double-role setup shows competence in orchestrating the comedic chaos, particularly in the third-act confusion when three Mohans are hauled before the authorities. However, the film struggles to elevate beyond its borrowed structure. Mala Sinha brings grace to her role as Meena, and there's genuine chemistry between Shammi and both his leading ladies, but the screenplay doesn't quite justify why we should invest in either romantic pairing when the entire plot hinges on deception and circumstance rather than authentic connection.

What's most frustrating is the film's inability to interrogate its own premise with wit. Mehmood, tasked with the heavier lifting as Anokhe, delivers competent comic work, but the script doesn't trust its audience enough to find humor in the complexity of the situation—instead opting for slapstick and misunderstandings that feel repetitive even by the standards of 1960s Hindi cinema. The blind father subplot involving Meena's household carries unearned emotional weight, deployed mechanically to force resolution rather than organically emerging from character. For all of Shammi's star power and the film's technical proficiency in execution, *Dil Tera Diwana* remains a middling entry in the comedy-

Storyline

Wayward, brash, and disobedient Mohan (Shammi Kapoor) is sent by his angry dad Diwan Badriprasad (Ulhas) to a retired army captain Dayaram (Om Prakash) to learn some discipline and respect. But Mohan asks his friend Anokhe (Mehmood) to switch places with him, and Anokhe agrees to do so. Mohan meets with Meena (Mala Sinha), who lives with her blind dad (Manmohan Krishan). Anokhe is welcomed as Mohan by Captain Dayaram and his daughter Malti (Shubha Khote) in their household. Eventually, both Malti and Anokhe fall in love. Things start to get even more muddled when Captain Dayaram finds out that Anokhe is married to another woman, and that Anokhe drives a rickshaw. The police are notified and they are asked to arrest Mohan - they arrest 3 Mohans. Who is the real Mohan?
