Rajeev Masrani's "Dial 100" ventures into the familiar territory of the revenge thriller, a genre that has seen both exceptional executions and formulaic retreads in Hindi cinema. The premise—a desperate mother's methodical orchestration of retribution through a police dispatcher—echoes the tension-building mechanics of films like "Pink" and "Badla," yet struggles to find its own distinctive voice within this crowded landscape. The film's central conceit is undeniably compelling: a woman with nothing to lose leveraging the very system designed to protect citizens as her instrument of justice. However, the narrative gradually abandons its psychological complexity in favor of conventional action beats and melodramatic turns, undermining the sophisticated premise with predictable plot machinations. The screenplay often prioritizes shock value over genuine character development, leaving viewers with a hollow sense of spectacle rather than earned emotional investment.

Storyline

A harried police dispatcher named Nikhil Sood answers an emergency call from a distressed woman threatening to take her own life, but she refuses to provide identifying details that could aid in a rescue. When Nikhil's wife reaches out with concerns about their son possibly relapsing into drug dealing, the situation spirals into something far more sinister when the mysterious caller infiltrates their home and takes his wife hostage.

The woman reveals herself as Seema Palav, a grieving mother whose son was killed in a hit-and-run accident involving a wealthy young man named Yash Mehra. Convinced that a corrupt system buried the case and that Nikhil's own son played a role, Seema orchestrates an elaborate revenge scheme, forcing Dhruv to lure Yash into her trap as Nikhil races against time to intervene.

The confrontation turns violent and tragic, leaving multiple casualties in its wake and testing whether Nikhil will compromise his principles. Back at the station, he faces a final moral test when powerful forces attempt to manipulate the official narrative through financial incentives.
