5.8/10Critic Score

"Deewana Tere Naam Ka" works best when it leans into the emotional complexity of its central triangle rather than the manufactured hijinks that populate its middle sections. The premise—friendship fractured by romantic rivalry—is hardly original, but there's genuine potential in exploring how jealousy corrodes the soul. The film's strongest moments come in its quieter scenes: Shambhu's spiraling resentment feels lived-in, and the eventual reckoning between the three characters carries real weight. The performances, particularly in these confrontational beats, suggest the cast understands the material's emotional core. However, director Amar Singh seems uncertain whether he's making a comedy or a drama, and the film suffers for this indecision, lurching awkwardly between slapstick humor and sincere introspection.

What undermines the film's reach is its reliance on contrived plotting to manufacture conflict. The rumor-spreading and chaos feel obligatory rather than organic, and too much screen time is wasted on side characters and subplots that dilute the intimate power of the central relationship. The resolution, while earnest in its intent, happens too abruptly—Shambhu's transformation, though dramatically satisfying, needed more gradual buildup to feel fully earned. Singh shows occasional directorial flair in framing intimate moments, and the music choices occasionally elevate scenes beyond their written quality, but these touches feel scattered rather than purposeful.
