Review
Homi Adajania's "Cocktail" arrives with the promise of liberation, and for stretches, it delivers exactly that—a film unafraid to show us women who drink, dance, and desire without apology. Deepika Padukone's Meera is the emotional anchor, her journey from betrayed bride to self-assured woman genuinely moving, even if the narrative occasionally shortcuts the complexity of that transformation. Diane Penty brings infectious energy as Veronica, though her character sometimes feels like a plot device rather than a fully realized person. What truly captivates is the chemistry between the three leads and how the film captures those rare, intoxicating moments of friendship—the laughter that heals, the vulnerability shared over drinks, the way three broken people can find wholeness in each other. These moments are tender and authentic, and they're what linger.
Yet the film stumbles when it tries to have its cake and eat it too, ultimately retreating into the very conservatism it seemed to critique. The ending feels like a betrayal of Meera's arc, as if her independence and self-discovery were merely stepping stones toward romantic redemption rather than the point itself. Storyline
So this girl Meera shows up in London all excited to start her married life, but surprise—her husband is a total jerk who only married her for money and wants nothing to do with her. She's basically abandoned at the airport, completely devastated and alone in a foreign country. That's when she meets this wild, carefree party girl named Veronica who takes pity on her crying in a bathroom and decides to help her out by letting her crash at her place.
Veronica's living the high life thanks to her wealthy dad sending her monthly checks, so she's always out clubbing and having fun. She drags Meera along one night to a nightclub where they bump into Gautam, this charming but totally commitment-phobic guy Meera had met at the airport. He and Veronica hit it off immediately and end up sleeping together, and pretty soon he's basically moved into their apartment with them.
What starts as an awkward living situation slowly transforms into a genuine friendship between all three of them. Even though Meera was put off by Gautam's cocky attitude at first, she eventually warms up to him. The trio becomes this unlikely group of close friends, and they start navigating life together in London in this really fun, unconventional way.
