Review
"Chhoti Si Mulaqat" is that delicious Bollywood confection that doesn't apologize for being contrived—and honestly, it shouldn't. The premise is audacious: a childhood marriage orchestrated by scheming elders, decades of separation, a love triangle that explodes into scandal, and the reveal that reunites everything in one melodramatic sweep. Director handles the escalating chaos with surprising finesse, letting the absurdity breathe while keeping emotional stakes grounded enough that we actually care. The performances are solid across the board—the lead actress carries the film's weight with conviction, moving credibly from innocent village girl to heartbroken woman to ultimate victor, while her male counterpart nails the confusion and honor-bound duty that marks his character's arc. What could've been a sticky mess instead feels inevitable, even fated, which is precisely what this story demands.
But the film isn't without its stumbles. The middle hour sags with repetitive conflict between Rupa and her mother, and the cousin Sonia subplot feels underbaked—she's a plot device masquerading as an antagonist rather than a fully realized character. The social commentary about village customs versus urban morality gets heavy-handed at times, preaching when it should simply show. And yes, that climactic reveal—while perfectly Bollywood in its construction—requires you to surrender all logic. Some will find that liberating; others will find it insulting to their intelligence.

Storyline
Rupa's grandmother whisks her away to a village where they bump into the wealthy but ailing Rai Saheb, who schemes to unite Rupa with his grandson Rajju—a match their grandfathers had promised decades ago. When Rai Saheb manipulates her way into agreement and then has a fatal heart attack, he forces an immediate marriage between the two oblivious children before dying. Back home, Rupa's mother discovers this secret wedding and goes to war against it, determined to erase every trace of the union from her daughter's life.
Years later, Rupa blossoms into a stunning young woman madly in love with Ashok, and her mother finally gives the match her blessing. But just as wedding bells are about to ring, Rupa's buried past comes crashing down—the village marriage surfaces, and suddenly society turns its back on her, branding her a deceiver. Her vicious cousin Sonia smells blood and starts plotting to steal Ashok away, twisting the knife deeper into Rupa's wound.
Here's where it gets gloriously wild: Rupa retreats to her in-laws' estate seeking shelter, only to come face-to-face with the shocking truth—her childhood husband Rajju and her beloved Ashok are the same person! All the heartbreak, the scandal, the desperate fight to keep them apart, only to realize destiny had already written their love story when they were kids. It's pure Bollywood magic—messy, emotional, and absolutely perfect.
