There is a genuinely compelling premise buried within "Chand Bujh Gaya"—the collision of personal romance against the backdrop of communal violence carries real dramatic potential. The film attempts to explore how external chaos fractures intimate bonds, a territory that demands both nuance and conviction. Director's ambition to interweave a love story with social commentary is commendable, yet the execution falters significantly. The performances, particularly in moments demanding vulnerability, show promise but never quite find their footing; the leads struggle to convey the psychological toll that mounting terror should impose. The writing oscillates between melodrama and social commentary without settling into either with confidence, leaving scenes that ought to devastate feeling instead contrived.

Storyline

So there's this wealthy guy whose son Rahul is supposed to marry a woman named Meghna, but plot twist—Rahul is actually head over heels for someone else named Saveen. Thankfully, Meghna is cool about it and backs out of the wedding when she finds out. Rahul and Saveen decide to hop on a train together to go meet Saveen's dad, who lives in another city.

Things go seriously wrong when they're on their journey and the train gets attacked and set on fire by an angry mob. The couple barely escape the chaos and manage to find shelter at the home of Payal, who happens to be a journalist living nearby. What starts as one terrible incident spirals into something much bigger—a full-blown communal riot breaks out in the area.

As the violence and tension spread all around them, Rahul and Saveen find themselves dealing with a lot more than just external danger. They start clashing with each other as they struggle to survive amid all the mayhem and fear. The couple faces some really tough circumstances that test their relationship in ways they never expected.
