"Boo" attempts to weave a supernatural thriller around the tired premise of a cursed book that bleeds fiction into reality, but the execution is frustratingly pedestrian. Director Nitesh Bharatan squanders what could have been an interesting concept by relying on jump scares and predictable horror tropes rather than genuine dread or atmospheric tension. The film's biggest problem is its inability to make us care about Kaira, Ritu, Aruna, and Kavya as characters—they're paper-thin archetypes who react to events rather than driving the narrative forward. The performances are wooden across the board, with the actresses seeming more confused about their characters' motivations than the audience watching them stumble through another haunted house sequence.
The story itself collapses under its own contradictions. The concept of stories manifesting in reality could've been clever, but instead we get poorly edited sequences where supernatural beings appear without any internal logic or coherent rules. The "dark origins" reveal is handled with all the sophistication of a Wikipedia plot summary, and the climactic escape feels unearned because we never truly understand what binds these characters to the book or why the rules suddenly change in the final act. Technically, the film is sloppy—choppy editing, cheap VFX work, and a soundtrack that screams "horror" whenever subtlety might have been more effective.
