Sanjay Dutt's return to cinema with this revenge drama carries genuine weight, even if the execution falters beneath its ambitions. The film tackles sexual violence and its aftermath with unflinching intensity—a brave choice in Hindi cinema—and Dutt himself delivers a performance of quiet fury that anchors the narrative. His portrayal of a father stripped of his daughter's dignity, channeling rage into pursuit of justice, feels earned and grounded. The early sequences establishing their bond, the tenderness before tragedy, do essential work in making the devastation that follows land emotionally.

However, the direction struggles to balance its social commentary with conventional thriller mechanics, often stumbling into melodrama when restraint would serve better. The legal system portions, potentially the film's most resonant element, get overshadowed by a more conventional revenge plot that undercuts the story's own argument about systemic justice. The supporting cast, particularly the antagonists, lack nuance—they're villains rather than characters. Taapsee Pannu does commendable work with limited screen time post-trauma, but the film sometimes reduces her tragedy to a male character's catalyst rather than centering her own journey.

What saves Bhoomi from being dismissible is its refusal to look away from pain it depicts, and a lead performance that transcends the material's limitations. It's a flawed film with a beating heart, uneven but not without conviction.

Storyline

So there's this woman named Bhoomi who works as a designer and is about to marry her best friend Neeraj. She's got a pretty sweet relationship with her dad, who makes shoes for a living, even though he struggles with drinking. But there's this guy Vishal from the neighborhood who's absolutely obsessed with her and can't handle the fact that she's getting married to someone else. When she rejects his advances, he becomes determined to do something drastic about it.

Things take a really dark turn when Vishal, along with some dangerous criminals he's connected to, commits a horrific crime against Bhoomi just before her wedding. The attack destroys everything she had planned, and when Neeraj finds out what happened, he can't go through with the marriage. Her dad and his old friend decide to fight for justice by going to the police, but the system they encounter is way more complicated and frustrating than they expected.

The story becomes about Bhoomi's father standing up for his daughter as they try to navigate a legal system that seems stacked against them. He has to deal with defense lawyers who don't seem to care about the real injustice that happened, and the whole process becomes an uphill battle for accountability and change. It's a pretty intense journey about fighting for what's right in a system that often fails victims.
