Bhindi Baazaar Inc.

Ashutosh Gowariker's "Bhindi Baazaar Inc." attempts to weave together crime, domestic drama, and social realism in the underbelly of Mumbai, but the execution falters under the weight of its own ambitions. The film's premise—tracking power struggles within a pickpocket gang following a tragic death—has genuine potential, and there are moments where the gritty authenticity of Bhindi Bazar bleeds through the screen with real texture. However, the narrative becomes unwieldy, juggling too many threads: the love triangle, gang warfare, a flu outbreak, and Shabana's machinations all compete for attention without achieving meaningful synthesis. The performances, while earnest, struggle against a script that doesn't give them enough psychological depth to anchor the increasingly melodramatic turns.

Where the film stumbles most is in its tonal inconsistency. Gowariker seems uncertain whether he's making a character study, a crime saga, or a morality tale, and the result is a diffuse experience that rarely lands with impact.
