4/10Critic Score

Benaam starts with a genuinely compelling premise—a man caught between civic duty and familial survival—but squanders it through lazy execution and a narrative that confuses melodrama for tension. The opening act shows promise, with the murder discovery feeling organic enough, but the moment Amit pockets that invitation fragment, the film's logic crumbles faster than a Delhi summer. Director Vivek Anand Subramanian seems more interested in piling on contrived complications than building genuine stakes; the kidnapping escalates absurdly, and instead of tightening the screws, the film just keeps adding more ransoms, more threats, more hysteria without earning any of it. The performances don't help—the lead actor plays Amit with the emotional range of a bewildered office worker rather than a man whose son's life hangs in the balance, while Sheela is relegated to the thankless role of perpetually worried wife, doing nothing but react to her husband's increasingly baffling decisions.

The investigation subplot involving Inspector Jadhav feels like it belongs to an entirely different, better film. When the reveal finally arrives about the mastermind's identity and connections, it lands with a thud rather than a bang because the filmmaker has spent so little time building genuine intrigue that you've already stopped caring who's actually pulling the strings. The climactic "showdown" is neither clever nor visually engaging—it's just a man outsmarting a villain through plot convenienc

Storyline

Amit and Sheela seem like your average Delhi power couple living the good life with their kid, but one fateful night at a party everything goes sideways when they stumble upon a brutal murder attempt on a reporter. Amit does the right thing—gets the victim to the hospital—but pockets a torn invitation fragment from the crime scene, completely unaware he's just picked up the deadliest piece of paper in the city. Within days, anonymous threats start rolling in, demanding he hand over the evidence, and when Amit refuses to play ball, the stakes explode into something unbearable.

The criminals don't mess around—they snatch Amit's son and the blackmail calls begin, each one more sinister than the last, forcing Amit into increasingly impossible situations. He's trapped between protecting his family and knowing that every move he makes could be his last, with shadowy forces pulling strings from the darkness. Sheela watches helplessly as her husband spirals, desperately trying to decode who's behind the kidnapping while the clock ticks mercilessly.

Amit teams up with Inspector Jadhav and they become obsessed with unmasking the mastermind, digging through layers of corruption and deception that run deeper than anyone imagined. The reveal is absolutely wild—turns out the person orchestrating this nightmare has connections that shake the foundation of everything Amit thought he knew. In a climactic showdown that'll have you on the edge of your seat, Amit finally outsmarts the culprit, rescues his son, and takes down the entire operation in one explosive finale that's pure cathartic justice.
