5/10Critic Score

Aditya Chopra's "Befikre" arrives with the infectious energy of young love in Paris, yet stumbles when it tries to anchor that chaos in something meaningful. The chemistry between Ranveer Singh and Vaani Kapoor is genuinely electric—their banter crackles with spontaneity, and you can feel the intoxication of two people discovering each other through dares and reckless adventures. The film's first half, when Dharam and Shyra are simply *living*—dancing through Parisian streets, challenging each other into vulnerability—captures something real about how love often begins: not with grand declarations, but with laughter and the thrill of being seen by another person. Singh's performance especially shines in these moments, his comedic timing making even the silliest dare feel like an act of intimacy.

But here lies the heartbreak of the film itself: it doesn't know what to do when the music stops. Once Dharam and Shyra move in together, the script abandons the characters we fell for and replaces them with a tired formula about misunderstandings and family expectations. The parents' subplot feels obligatory rather than organic, and the conflicts that separate them lack the specificity needed to sting. Chopra's direction, usually so assured, becomes scattered—unable to bridge the tonal shift from romantic comedy to relationship drama. We're left watching two people we loved become vehicles for a story that's been told a thousand times before.

What remains frustrating is the waste o

Storyline

So basically, this movie is set in Paris and kicks off with this couple, Dharam and Shyra, having this massive fight that ends their relationship. Dharam's this Delhi guy who works as a stand-up comedian at his buddy's struggling restaurant, and after the breakup, he's up on stage making jokes about how amazing it is to be single. But then the story flashes back to show us how these two actually got together in the first place, which is pretty hilarious because it all started with dares and wild adventures.

When Dharam first moved to Paris looking for work and some excitement, he randomly meets Shyra at a party through his friend. She's this super fun tour guide who was born and raised in France but has Indian parents. Their chemistry is instant and chaotic—like, she literally makes him slap a cop on a dare before she'll even go on a date with him! They end up in this crazy relationship where they keep challenging each other with ridiculous dares and just having the time of their lives together in the city.

Things get more serious when they decide to move in together and Dharam gets to meet Shyra's parents, who run their own Indian restaurant. But obviously, living together brings out some real relationship stuff, and they end up having tons of misunderstandings and arguments. Eventually, things fall apart enough that Shyra moves back in with her family, which brings us back to where the movie started with Dharam still processing everything at the restaurant.
