Himesh Reshammiya's comedic debut in *Badass Ravi Kumar* represents an intriguing collision between artistic ambition and execution that doesn't quite cohere. The film wears its deliberately absurdist 80s-inspired sensibilities on its sleeve, rejecting conventional Bollywood formulas in favor of chaotic, anarchic energy. Reshammiya's screen presence carries considerable charm, and there's undeniable technical commitment to the film's garish visual palette and over-the-top aesthetic choices. However, this boldness of vision frequently stumbles when it matters most—the script confuses frenetic pacing with genuine comedy, and spectacle consistently overshadows substance. For every moment that captures the intended irreverent spirit, several others collapse under the weight of their own self-indulgence.
The fundamental weakness lies in the gap between conception and delivery. Storyline
So basically, this movie kicks off in 1989 when a Pakistani official hires this flamboyant crime boss named Carlos to find a super secret film reel that has all kinds of dangerous intel on it—we're talking Indian spies and missile codes. The reel ends up with this woman Laila after she does something pretty drastic, and when she tries to hand it off to Carlos in India, all hell breaks loose. The Indian authorities have to bring back this tough-as-nails former cop named Ravi Kumar, who's basically a legend for taking down bad guys and not caring about following the rulebook.
Ravi teams up with an Interpol agent and a couple of funny sidekicks, and they all go on this wild international adventure trying to grab the reel before the bad guys get it. The action takes them to Muscat where they're up against Carlos and his goons, with all these crazy over-the-top fight scenes and even a slick diamond heist thrown in there for good measure. Along the way, Ravi discovers that his ex-girlfriend Madhubala is actually connected to the whole mess because she's Laila's sister.
Things get really personal when Carlos kidnaps Madhubala, which pushes Ravi into going all-in for the final confrontation. He makes his way into Carlos's hideout and takes him down in an epic battle that settles both the national security crisis and his own score. Just when you think it's all wrapped up, there's this twist where it turns out Carlos had a brother who's now gunning for payback, so you know there's definitely more chaos coming.
