Article 15

Ayan Pandey's *Article 15* is a rare beast in Hindi cinema—a film that actually has something to say, and says it without flinching. Rishab Sawant's direction is surgical, dissecting the rotting underbelly of caste-based corruption with the precision of a scalpel. The narrative structure is taut, moving from shock to investigation to systemic indictment without ever becoming preachy, though it comes dangerously close in the second half. Ayushmann Khurrana is perfectly cast as the idealistic outsider; his performance relies less on histrionics and more on the quiet rage of a man discovering his nation's darkest truths. The supporting cast—particularly the actors playing complicit officials—brings authenticity that elevates the material beyond melodrama.

What doesn't work is the film's occasional descent into didacticism, especially when it abandons thriller conventions to become a lecture hall. The third act feels like it's explaining the plot to an audience it doesn't trust, and some confrontation scenes veer into being too convenient for narrative purposes. But here's the thing—these are minor stumbles in a film that tackles caste violence, police brutality, and institutional corruption without sanitizing or sensationalizing. It's angry cinema, and yes, anger can make art clumsy, but it also makes it essential.
