5/10Critic Score

What a delightful paradox this film presents—a movie about a Bollywood pitch that becomes exactly what the producer feared: a half-baked masala film that tries too hard to be clever about trying too hard. Siddhant Chaturvedi brings earnest charm to Arjun Patiala, a small-town cop with an outsized sense of duty, and there are genuine moments where his idealism feels touching rather than naive. Kriti Sanon as Ritu sparkles with the kind of spirited energy that could anchor a better film, and their chemistry crackles enough to make you root for them even when the plot around them crumbles. Director Rohit Jugraj seems caught between wanting to satirize Bollywood excess and wanting to deliver that very excess, and this confusion spreads like a virus through every scene—the comedy lands sporadically, the action sequences feel obligatory, and the crime drama that should ground everything instead meanders without consequence.

The real tragedy is that buried somewhere in here is a sweet story about an honest cop fighting systemic rot in a corrupt district, a love story between two people who genuinely complement each other, and even a sly wink at how Bollywood sells us the same stories over and over. But the film is too scattered to commit to any of these threads fully. It wants to be funny about formula while following formula so faithfully it becomes boring. The supporting cast tries valiantly, the songs are pleasant enough, but there's a hollow feeling to it all—like watching some

Storyline

So there's this hilarious setup where a director pitches his masala film idea to a producer, rattling off all the typical Bollywood ingredients—songs, action sequences, comedy—and the producer just nods along without even bothering to read the actual script! When the director finally gets to actually tell him the story, it's about this guy named Arjun Patiala who's a judo champion and gets recruited as a police officer. He gets posted at a station in Punjab where he teams up with a constable named Onida, and right from day one, he impresses everyone with his smarts and honest approach.

Things get interesting when Arjun crosses paths with Ritu, a journalist covering local news, and there's definitely chemistry between them. Around the same time, his boss shows up with this ambitious goal of making the district completely crime-free. When a local gangster named Baldev throws his weight around and beats up one of their officers, Ritu reaches the scene expecting nothing will happen, but Arjun shows up and takes matters into his own hands, which totally impresses her.

As Arjun and Ritu start getting closer, she fills him in on the whole crime underworld situation in the district. Turns out there are rival gangsters competing for territory and power, creating all sorts of chaos. Arjun realizes he doesn't have much to work with—limited resources and tons of legal red tape—but he's determined to figure out a way to tackle this mess and clean up the area.
