Review
Apurva arrives as a thriller that desperately wants to unsettle you but ultimately fails to deliver the genuine dread it's chasing. The film checks off all the genre prerequisites—isolated protagonist, escalating danger, brutal confrontations—yet executes them with such mechanical precision that you're watching a checklist being ticked rather than experiencing a story unfolding. The direction aims for gritty realism but lands somewhere between exploitation and tepidness, dwelling on violence without justifying it narratively, and creating sequences that shock for shock's sake rather than to advance character or plot. Where similar films like Highway and NH10 found their footing through sharper screenwriting and atmospheric tension, Apurva feels derivative and stale, borrowing the trappings of those superior thrillers without understanding what made them work.
The one genuine bright spot is Tara Sutaria's performance, which finally gives her a role worthy of her talents—here she's allowed to act rather than function as window dressing beside a male lead. Her face-off sequences carry whatever punch the film manages to land, proving she's capable of carrying a film when given material that demands more than charm. Storyline
A lone woman's ordinary journey transforms into a nightmare when a ruthless gang of criminals turns a simple bus ride into a scene of bloodshed and chaos. Torn from the safety of her plans to see her fiancé, she finds herself trapped in an isolated, crumbling village where danger lurks in every shadow and escape seems impossible. What begins as an act of predatory violence becomes something far more desperate—a battle for survival against men who have nothing left to lose.
Stripped of help and hope, she discovers an unexpected ally in an elderly astrologer who becomes her partner in the fight for their lives. Together they navigate the desolate landscape, learning that desperation can awaken a strength neither knew they possessed. Each moment demands a choice: surrender to fear, or find the will to fight back against overwhelming odds.
Hunted through the night by a pack of killers who grow more enraged with each setback, she becomes the hunter herself—turning the hunters' own brutality against them, one by one. With only the promise that dawn will bring rescue, she must dig deeper into reserves of courage and cunning than she ever imagined existed, racing against time and the men who refuse to let her live to see morning.
