*Aitbaar* constructs an intricately layered thriller around a deceptively simple premise—a husband's calculated attempt to have his wife murdered—and largely succeeds in keeping the audience off-balance. The film's central inversion, where the hired killer becomes the victim and the intended victim becomes the accused, is narratively satisfying and well-executed. What elevates the material, however, is the measured revelation of Jaydeep's true motive: marrying for money rather than passion. It's a grounded anchor for what could have been mere melodrama. The director demonstrates solid command over the procedural elements, particularly in how Inspector Barua's investigation unfolds, and there's genuine tension in watching the frame job take hold before the slow, methodical dismantling of the conspiracy.

Yet the film isn't without its stumbles. The characterization of Neha, despite her ultimate vindication, remains somewhat passive for much of the runtime—she's more plot device than fully realized protagonist until her moment of self-defense. Vikramjeet's arc, too, could have been developed with greater nuance; his desperation and capitulation to blackmail feel slightly rushed. The performances are serviceable, though none quite transcend the material to leave a lasting impression. The final act, while emotionally satisfying, rushes toward its conclusion with Jaydeep's suicide perhaps too conveniently resolving what could have been a more complex reckoning with institutional f

Storyline

Jaydeep sets up a sinister trap by befriending Vikramjeet on a rainy night and spinning him a sob story about his wife Neha's affair with some guy named Sagar—except it's all lies designed to rope him into murder for hire. When Vikramjeet refuses, Jaydeep blackmails him ruthlessly with photos of a dead body and proof of his drug-dealing aliases, forcing him to accept 1 lakh rupees to strangle Neha while Jaydeep's away at a party. The plan seems airtight: Vikramjeet sneaks into the house, waits in the drawing room, and finishes the job when Neha arrives—except Neha fights back and kills him in self-defense instead!

Now Jaydeep's scrambling, and he does what any cold-blooded murderer would do: he stages the crime scene to frame his own wife, leaving her shocked and defenseless. The prosecution eats it up, the judge buys it, and Neha gets prison time for a murder she didn't commit—but here's where it gets beautiful: Inspector Barua smells something rotten and digs deeper. He uncovers the truth that Neha and Sagar were old flames who reconnected as friends, not lovers, and that Jaydeep married her purely for her money!

The walls close in on Jaydeep as his entire scheme unravels, and knowing he's finished, he takes his own life rather than face justice. Neha walks free, vindicated and alive, having survived a husband's calculated betrayal and a rigged legal system through sheer luck and a detective who actually gave a damn. It's a gripping reminder that evil always leaves fingerprints—you just need someone willing to look hard enough!
