Ahaan attempts something genuinely ambitious—using the framework of a character study to explore mental health and human connection across the boundaries of disability and social stigma. The central pairing between a man battling obsessive-compulsive disorder and his neighbour with Down Syndrome could have easily veered into mawkish territory, but the film largely resists that temptation. Instead, it finds quiet moments of authenticity where both characters challenge each other's assumptions about normalcy and belonging. The writing demonstrates a sincere effort to avoid reducing either protagonist to their condition, instead positioning them as complex individuals whose struggles and triumphs feel earned rather than orchestrated for sentiment.

Where Ahaan stumbles, however, is in its execution of these compelling ideas. The narrative occasionally slips into predictable arcs, and certain dramatic turns feel more obligatory than organic to the characters' journeys. The supporting cast and storylines lack the same depth afforded to the lead pair, making the world feel somewhat underdeveloped. What could have been a nuanced exploration of resilience sometimes settles for superficial uplift instead. That said, the film deserves credit for its earnest intent and the genuine moments of tenderness it captures—reminders that mainstream Hindi cinema still has room for stories that center human dignity over spectacle.
