Review
Puri Jagannadh's "Action Jackson" attempts to straddle the line between mass-market masala and stylish crime thriller, but stumbles awkwardly in the middle, never fully committing to either. The premise—a doppelgänger con artist forced to impersonate a lethal assassin in Bangkok—has genuine potential, the kind of high-concept setup that could elevate a genre film into something memorable. However, the execution is scattered and tonally inconsistent. Ajay Devgn brings his signature stoicism to dual roles, but the character differentiation feels superficial; neither Vishi's street-smart charm nor Jai's brooding complexity registers with enough specificity to justify the twin-role gimmick. The supporting cast, including Sonakshi Sinha, remains underutilized, relegated to reactive rather than active narrative roles. The film wants to be "Chandni Bar" meets "Baby" with a dash of Hong Kong action cinema, but it lacks the narrative discipline of Sriram Raghavan or the kinetic brilliance of Vishal-Shekhar's best work.
Where "Action Jackson" does find its footing is in its Bangkok-set second half, where the production design and location cinematography occasionally elevate the material beyond the pedestrian. The action sequences, when they arrive, show competence rather than innovation—solid enough to not embarrass the franchise, but forgettable within hours. Storyline
So basically, this movie is about this small-time hustler named Vishi who's always getting into trouble for cash. He happens to look exactly like this mysterious guy named Jai, and when he accidentally picks a fight with the wrong person, things get pretty wild. Turns out Jai isn't just any guy—he's actually a serious assassin working for a powerful crime boss named Xavier. The two of them keep running into each other, and Vishi ends up learning all about Jai's complicated past.
Here's where it gets interesting: Jai is in a tough spot because his wife got badly hurt by Xavier, who was obsessed with forcing Jai to marry his sister Marina instead. Jai needs time to get his pregnant wife the medical help she desperately needs, so he comes up with this wild plan. He asks Vishi to pretend to be him and go to Bangkok to trick Xavier and Marina while he handles things back in India. Vishi is down for it, so off he goes with his buddy to pull off this insane disguise.
Obviously, things don't go exactly according to plan once they're in Bangkok. Xavier and Marina start getting suspicious, especially after some shady stuff starts happening around them. Vishi has to keep up this dangerous act while staying one step ahead of people who would literally kill him if they figured out he's a fake. It's a high-stakes game of deception with a lot more danger than either of them bargained for.
