Aap Ke Deewane

Review

4/10Critic Score

"Aap Ke Deewane" is a film that mistakes loud chaos for character development and relies entirely on the chemistry of its leads to paper over a fundamentally hollow premise. The central conceit—two friends posing as a married couple to tutor a wealthy woman—is not just contrived; it's downright insulting to the audience's intelligence. The film squanders what could have been genuinely interesting territory (the expulsion subplot, the class dynamics with the wealthy family) by abandoning it halfway through to pivot into a predictable love triangle. The direction is pedestrian at best, hitting every beat of the formula without a shred of wit or originality. Performances matter here because the script certainly doesn't: if Ram and Rahim's actors don't carry this film on sheer charm alone, there's nothing underneath to catch you.

What truly rankles is how the film treats Sameera as a prize rather than a person. She's positioned as the "ultimate choice-maker," but she's really just a MacGuffin in a story about two men's feelings. The redemption arc for Ram and Rahim—bouncing back from false expulsion charges—gets lip service but no real exploration. Instead of using this setup to examine privilege, friendship, or even the mechanics of deception, the film coasts on rom-com autopilot. There are moments where you catch glimpses of what could have worked: genuine humor, actual stakes, real emotional weight. But the director can't seem to find the thread, and the script certainly does

Storyline

Ram and Rahim are the ultimate bromance—childhood best friends who breeze through college together, acing every exam and living their best lives. But everything implodes when Kundan, a jealous classmate, orchestrates a vicious frame-up, getting them expelled on fake molestation charges. Desperate and determined to turn things around, they cook up an absolutely bonkers scheme: pose as a married couple and land gigs as tutors to Sameera, the gorgeous adopted daughter of two filthy-rich dads.

Living under one roof with Sameera while pretending to be each other's spouse? Chaos erupts instantly! Both Ram and Rahim predictably fall head-over-heels for their beautiful charge, and suddenly their friendship hits turbulent waters. The tension simmers as they compete for her affection, each convinced they're the one who truly understands her heart.

Sameera becomes the ultimate prize—or better yet, the ultimate choice-maker—and she's got all the power here. In true Bollywood fashion, she navigates the madness, weighs both options, and ultimately picks the guy who genuinely deserves her love. It's a wild, heartfelt ride that celebrates friendship, redemption, and the messy beautiful chaos of falling in love!
