1920: Horrors of the Heart

I just watched this absolutely wild 1920 horror film set in Bombay, and honestly, my mind is still spinning. So basically, this young woman Meghna's father dies by suicide, but here's the crazy part—when they autopsy him, his heart is literally missing from his body. Like, completely gone. At his funeral, all these disturbing things start happening around her, and she finds his diary which reveals that her own mother had some seriously dark secrets involving affairs with British people and even tried to poison her father. It's this whole betrayal that completely shatters Meghna's world.

After uncovering all this, Meghna becomes obsessed with getting revenge on her mother, who's now living this glamorous life married to some wealthy maharaja. She starts communicating with her dead father's spirit, and he seems to be guiding her toward something sinister. When she sneaks into her mother's fancy house, she does this ritual with a sacred lamp, and suddenly there's this creepy brahmin ghost guy showing up everywhere, causing nightmares and chaos.

The atmosphere throughout is genuinely unsettling—there's something lurking beneath the surface that keeps building tension. The film plays with both the psychological horror of family trauma and actual supernatural elements, so you're never quite sure what's real versus what's in people's heads.
