Production Studio
Padmalaya Studios
Padmalaya Studios is one of those legendary production houses that actually put Hyderabad on the Bollywood map. Founded by the legendary actor Krishna and his brothers back in 1970 as Padmalaya Movies, the studio has been a powerhouse for decades, producing and distributing Telugu and Hindi films that audiences loved. The real game-changer came in 1984 when the Andhra Pradesh government gifted them 9.5 acres of land to build a full-fledged studio facility—a massive vote of confidence in their vision. Their first film, Agni Pariksha (1970), kicked things off, but it was the opening of the actual studio in November 1984 that cemented their place in Indian cinema history. Simhasanam (1986) became the first film shot at the facility, marking the beginning of an era of quality production from this Jubilee Hills-based hub. What made Padmalaya special was its commitment to bridging Telugu and Hindi cinema while maintaining top-notch production values—something not many regional studios attempted back then. They weren't just churning out films; they were genuinely contributing to Hyderabad's growth as a film production center. While the original studio's operations have evolved and are now managed through successors like Indira Productions, G. Mahesh Babu Entertainment, and Krishna Productions, the legacy of Padmalaya remains strong. The studio's influence on Indian cinema, particularly in establishing world-class production infrastructure in South India, continues to be felt, making it a cornerstone institution in Bollywood's larger ecosystem.
