Revathi, born Asha Kelunni in Kochi, Kerala, is one of South Indian cinema's most versatile and accomplished actresses. She burst onto the scene with Mann Vasanai in 1983, earning a Filmfare Special Award right out of the gate, and never looked back. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, she dominated Tamil, Malayalam, and Telugu cinema with powerhouse performances in critically acclaimed and box-office hits. Her resume includes three National Film Awards, seven Filmfare Awards South, and Tamil Nadu's highest civilian honor, the Kalaimamani, awarded in 1993. Whether playing strong-willed women or deeply human characters, Revathi proved she could command any role, making her one of the era's most respected faces in South Indian film. Beyond acting, Revathi has quietly become one of Bollywood's most interesting creative voices. She transitioned into directing with the English-language film Mitr, My Friend in 2002, snagging a National Film Award for Best Feature Film in English—a rare achievement that showcased her ambitions beyond performing. Her directorial projects, including the critically acclaimed Phir Milenge and the recent Salaam Venky, have shown her commitment to telling meaningful stories. She's also a trained Bharatanatyam dancer and passionate philanthropist, bringing depth and purpose to everything she touches. Revathi represents that rare kind of artist who refuses to be boxed in—constantly evolving, creating, and contributing to cinema in multiple ways.
