Sukumar's "Love" attempts to wrestle with redemption and class prejudice through the story of Prithvi, a man trying to escape his violent past for genuine connection with Maggie. The film's central premise carries real emotional weight—the idea that society's refusal to grant second chances can become a self-fulfilling prophecy is potent material. The performances, particularly in the quieter moments between the lead pair, demonstrate genuine chemistry and vulnerability. However, the execution fractures under the weight of its ambitions. The narrative lurches between intimate character work and melodramatic violence without finding coherent balance; Stella's transformation from antagonist to the catalyst for tragedy feels more like plot mechanics than earned character evolution. The climactic injury, meant to be a watershed moment, arrives as a contrivance rather than an organic consequence, and the resolution glosses over the deeper systemic issues the film initially promised to interrogate.

What's frustrating is that beneath the scattered storytelling lies a director capable of sensitivity—Sukumar's previous work averages 6.3/10, suggesting he understands character-driven narratives. Here, he seems torn between making an intimate love story and a social commentary, succeeding fully at neither. The supporting cast, particularly the Guruji character, hints at complexity that gets abandoned for convenience. Technical execution is competent if unremarkable. "Love" isn't withou

Storyline

Prithvi carries a brutal past—he's done time for killing the man who destroyed his family, his abusive father. When he meets the luminous Maggie, everything changes; their connection is electric and genuine, blooming into real love despite his shadowy history. But the moment Maggie brings him home, her parents take one look at his criminal record and slam the door in his face, refusing to accept him no matter how hard the couple fights back.

Things spiral when Maggie's mother Stella decides she's had enough of their defiance and calls the cops to have Prithvi arrested again. Enter Guruji, an unlikely savior who bails him out and believes in redemption in a way her family never will. Still, love isn't enough to stop Stella's rage—she hires goons to beat Prithvi down, and in the chaos, Maggie gets caught in the crossfire and gets seriously hurt.

That injury becomes the turning point that shakes everyone to their core, forcing every character to confront what their hatred and stubbornness has actually cost them. It's the kind of moment that either destroys everything or finally makes people see straight, and watching how it all plays out is absolutely gripping.
