Yudhra

5.8/10Critic Score

Sriram Raghavan's "Yudhra" arrives with a compelling premise—a young man raised by two father figures, burdened by uncontrolled rage, thrust into an undercover mission against his parents' killer. There's genuine potential here in exploring trauma, belonging, and redemption through a high-stakes crime thriller. Siddhant Chaturvedi brings intensity to the titular role, and the film's technical execution—particularly in action sequences and cinematography—demonstrates competence. However, the narrative struggles to balance its ambitious themes with coherent storytelling. The emotional foundation laid in the first act doesn't quite sustain through the undercover portion, where plot mechanics often feel contrived rather than organic. The supporting cast works within their constraints, but character arcs lack the depth needed to make the story's heavier moments land with impact.

Where "Yudhra" falters is in its screenplay's inability to develop its own mythology convincingly. The relationship dynamics between Yudhra and his two guardians had real dramatic meat—that's where the film feels most assured—but once the crime thriller framework takes over, emotional coherence takes a backseat to genre conventions. The film moves from introspective character study to revenge saga without fully earning the transition. Raghavan's direction shows technical polish and ambition, which prevents this from being a complete misfire, but the final product feels like two different films awkwardly s

Storyline

So this movie kicks off with a tragedy—a young cop named Girish and his wife Prerana die in a car crash, but not before their baby boy Yudhra is born. Two of Girish's closest friends from the police force, Karthik and Rehman, step in to raise the kid together, with Karthik becoming his legal guardian. Fast forward a bunch of years, and Yudhra's grown into this guy with serious anger management issues and a reckless streak that makes both his dads pretty worried about him.

Because Yudhra's basically a ticking time bomb with impulse control problems, Karthik and Rehman decide to send him to this fancy training academy in Pune to help him get his act together. That's where he reconnects with Nikhat, his childhood crush who happens to be Rehman's daughter, and things start looking up for him romantically. But then he gets kicked out of the academy after going way too hard while defending a friend, which causes Nikhat to bounce and move to Portugal for medical school, leaving him heartbroken.

Here's where things get interesting—Rehman approaches Yudhra with a secret mission that sounds absolutely insane. Turns out, the crime lord who orchestrated his parents' deaths all those years ago is still running a massive operation, and Rehman wants Yudhra to go undercover, get sent to prison, and work his way into the criminal's inner circle to bring down the whole organization from the inside. Yudhra's torn up about finding out his parents' killer is still out there, so he agrees to go through with this dangerous plan.
