4/10Critic Score

Yamla Pagla Deewana 2 is the cinematic equivalent of a relative who won't leave your house—overstays its welcome, repeats the same tired jokes, and somehow thinks you're having a good time. The premise itself isn't entirely without merit: a family con artist scheme colliding with genuine romance has potential for sharp comedy. But director Sangeeth Sivan squanders it completely, opting instead for a bloated, exhausting parade of slapstick that confuses volume with humor. The film mistakes shouting for wit, physical comedy for cleverness, and Dharmendra's charisma for a script. What could've been a taut caper becomes a tedious exercise in watching talented actors—Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol included—desperately try to salvage material that was DOA.

The performances are the only saving grace, though even they're fighting a losing battle. Dharmendra carries scenes through sheer screen presence despite the script's weaknesses, and there's a genuine spark between the romantic leads that briefly suggests the film knows what it should be. But the director's inability to balance tone, his indulgent padding of every scene, and a climax that feels simultaneously rushed and bloated kill any momentum. At nearly two-and-a-half hours, this film commits the cardinal sin of Bollywood comedies: it forgets to be fun. The ₹48 crore box office might've been respectable, but box office numbers don't excuse creative bankruptcy.

Storyline

So basically, this film brings back the whole Dhillon family crew – there's the scheming dad Dharam Singh, his mischievous younger son Gajodhar who's just as bad, and then there's Paramveer, the good guy older son who actually has his life together. The story kicks off in Banaras where the dad and younger son are running this hilarious fake spiritual guru scam, pretending to be some holy man to trick people out of money. Their eyes land on this supposedly super-rich businessman from England, and they come up with this wild plan to get Gajodhar to marry the guy's daughter so they can steal his wealth.

The whole scheme takes them to London, where surprise surprise – Paramveer is already living! He's actually doing really well as a loan recovery agent for a bank, and he's kind of a big shot after saving some club owner's business from gangsters. When Paramveer discovers what his dad and brother are up to, he's absolutely devastated because he thought they'd finally gotten their act together. But there's no time to deal with that drama because he meets Reet, the club owner's other daughter, at an engagement party and completely falls for her. She's this cool, artistic type who works at an art gallery, and there's instant chemistry between them.

Things get messy pretty quick because Paramveer is genuinely interested in Reet and trying to be honest with her, while at the same time his family is busy running their con right under everyone's noses. So now he's caught between his love life, his crooked family members, and trying to keep everything from blowing up in everyone's faces. It's the perfect storm of chaos, deception, and romance all mixed together!
