4/10Critic Score

Wafaa attempts to resurrect the marital drama formula that once captivated audiences, but lands as a thoroughly forgettable exercise in predictability. The central conflict—pitting a steadfast husband against an unfaithful wife—feels archaeologically old, lacking the nuance or emotional depth that could elevate it beyond melodramatic convention. Even the supporting cast, including a weary Sudesh Berry as the investigating officer, seems to sleepwalk through their roles, unable to inject life into a narrative that has been exhausted by countless predecessors in Hindi cinema. The film relies on surface-level moralizing rather than exploring the psychological complexity that might have made this domestic tragedy compelling.

What's most striking about Wafaa is how it exemplifies a certain desperation in its approach to maintaining star appeal—the kind of misguided showmanship that substitutes gratuitousness for genuine character development. The film mistakes physicality for relevance and fails to understand that contemporary audiences demand more than aesthetic excess or tired gender politics dressed up as drama. By refusing to engage meaningfully with its own premise, Wafaa squanders any opportunity to resonate, instead offering viewers a tedious procession of scenes that feel like they've been recycled from a hundred forgettable television serials.
