Vishwaroopam

Kamal Haasan's "Vishwaroopam" is a genuinely ambitious thriller that attempts to weave together marital discord, espionage, and international terrorism into a single narrative—and while it doesn't always achieve seamless coherence, the film deserves credit for its audacity and technical craft. Haasan himself delivers a measured, nuanced performance as Viz, capturing both the quiet vulnerability of a man trapped in an unhappy marriage and the coiled intensity of a character with a dangerous past. The action sequences, when they arrive, are inventive and well-choreographed, carrying a visceral quality that elevates them beyond standard Bollywood fare. What occasionally undermines the film is its overstuffed plotting; the screenplay tries to juggle too many threads—psychological thriller, marital drama, espionage plot, and action spectacle—and not all of them receive equal weight or resolution.

Shashibala's portrayal of Nirupama offers shades of complexity, though her character's arc remains somewhat reactive to the larger male-centered narrative unfolding around her. Director Haasan demonstrates genuine control over tone and pacing in stretches, particularly in the thriller sections, though the tonal shifts between intimate domestic scenes and geopolitical intrigue can feel jarring. The film's technical aspects—cinematography, music by Harris Jayaraj, and production design—are polished and accomplished. What prevents "Vishwaroopam" from reaching the upper echelon is the sense
